SFEWA (Foundation for the promotion and development of West Africa) is a non-profit organization, which has as its goal the promotion of specific development projects in West Africa.

We consist of a small, dedicated team in Germany and Portugal, who acquired a personal impression of the needs of the friendly, open-minded and peaceful West African people on our many travels in several countries in West Africa. We have personally seen the poverty and hopelessness these people are living in and are of the view that even a little help is enough to improve their living conditions and feel that we must do something. The motivation for the creation of this Foundation was to provide specific support to these people – not just to feel sorry for them and leave their country.

In the meantime we have established contacts with local partners and at Government level, a prerequisite for the realization of goal-oriented projects sustainable in the social context.

The concept of help to self help is important to us as is monitoring and control. It is particularly important that our projects are aligned on the real needs of the communities and that the help arrives exactly there, where it is most urgently needed. This is the only way to break the cycle of poverty, help people who live in one of the poorest regions of the world and to hope for a better future.

Use of funds:

Of course, every donor should know what specifically happens with his or her donation. So, what percentage of the donated sum goes directly to on-the-spot projects? We can clearly answer this question:

At SFEWA, the administrative costs do not exceed 10 percent!

And because 90 percent of the donations go directly to the aid projects, you can be sure that your money is used for its intended purpose. (Administrative costs up to 30% are common in many other donor agencies ).

By co-financing in cooperation with public and private agencies, SFEWA can apply for additional aid. Pots for this purpose are available e.g. in the EU, the Ministry and in large international foundations. And often the Governments of the project countries support meaningful initiatives. Many companies, depending on size, industry or company philosophy also show a generous attitude, whether in the delivery of goods or manufactured products. Through this leverage effect we hope to raise funds as a multiple of the donations recieved – in the interest of the projects and the local people and for a better tomorrow.
